Coffee Bay

Something about Coffee Bay absorbs your soul, draws you in & makes you want to stop to soak it up.

The passage of time becomes inconsequential and a natural unwinding occurs that brings a feeling of peace and goodwill.

The drive from the N2 is picturesque as the road winds through the hills and valleys dotted with traditional dwellings. Fencing is neither affordable nor a priority, so local herds of cows, goats, sheep, pigs and even geese use the road as their own – traversing at will, or merely hanging out to pass the time of day. Combined with the potholed condition of the tarred road you are forced already to slow your pace and appreciate your surrounds!

Topping the final hill before the steep descent into Coffee Bay brings well earned relief as you see the village sprawled down below. Nestled between hill and ocean and encompassing two river mouths Coffee Bay invites you to explore.

Mind the oversize speed bump at the bottom of this final descent!

In terms of accommodation, most people will find something that suits both their budget and their style in Coffee Bay. For those of the back packing variety there is plenty of choice, Coffee Shack being the most popular back packing destination here. At the other end of the spectrum, Coffee Bay boasts a hotel that is beautifully located below the cliffs that mark the edge of the bay. Between these two extremes are several B&B’s that are comfortable, clean and affordable.

If you seek something that is neither hotel, nor back packer nor indeed a regular B&B, you might find comfort at friends guesthouse. Situated on the far side of town, with close proximity to the life of the village, friends offers a space that is yours to unwind in, a home away from home. A stone and thatch building, it began life as one of the original rondavels in Coffee Bay and gradually grew into the character accommodation it is today. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and open onto a large relaxed living room from where you can watch the village life unfold.

Here you have the option of self catering, but for those who are truly relaxing, breakfast, lunch and dinner options are readily available, prepared onsite at our friends cafe.

For those travelling as a group, friends also offers an open plan self contained flat that can sleep up to 8 people. This has its own kitchen for self catering, but again, guests are always welcome to pop up to our friends cafe for a welcome break in routine.

Friends cafe is built for the view, and our guests are welcome to while away their time over a good cup of coffee whilst letting their minds drift out over the ocean. The menu is simple, focussing on freshness, and catering to all diets.

For the sweet tooth, try our signature chocolate cake, or our divine baked cheesecake. A selection of tea is available, as well as juices, shakes and smoothies.
